Maggie Ellen Smith Hopkins

On Monday, December 18, 2023 at 2:49 a.m., Maggie Ellen Smith Hopkins departed this life to be with the Lord being 81 years 2 months 4 days old. She was born on October 14, 1942 in Blackwater in Laurel County, Kentucky to Will Smith & Lillie Taylor Smith. She married Harold Wendell Hopkins on December 23, 1961 and had three children, Merlene Hopkins Lawson, Sheila Hopkins Witt and Wendell Royce Hopkins. She was retired from Griffin Pie Company where she worked for thirty one years. Along with her children, Maggie is survived by two granddaughters, Jessica Lawson and Chessie Valentine; three great-grandchildren, Wittlee, Maddy and Bryson Kirby, all of London; one brother, Willie Smith of Indiana; plus a host of other family and friends to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wendell Hopkins; her parents, Will Smith & Lillie Ester Taylor; three brothers; seven sisters. Maggie was a member of Old Ark House of Prayer where she loved to serve Jesus Christ. She also enjoyed working in her flower beds, doing puzzles, crafting, watching birds and loved “family days” on the weekends. Her family was her everything. If you knew her, you loved her. A funeral service honoring Maggie Ellen Smith Hopkins will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 2:30 pm in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Roy Eversole & Charles Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at the Taylor Cemetery in London, KY. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 beginning at 12:30 pm until the funeral hour also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
