Otis Hurley

London, Kentucky

Otis Dean Hurley was born on October 30, 1946, and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Rae Wyatt Hurley; three daughters, Deanna (Chad) Eastham of Ohio, Tanya White of London, and Michelle Hurley of Lexington; four grandchildren, Reid (Kayleigh), Seth (Morgan), Dayanna, and Zoe; and three great-grandchildren, Corvin, Everett, and Blakeley. A son of the late Robert Lee and Edith Mae Payne Hurley and an East Bernstadt native, Otis served 26 years in the United States Air Force, where he worked in aircraft mechanics and missile maintenance and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. The Hurley Family was stationed at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, for over 16 years. In his youth, Otis's hobbies were multiple and varied: he enjoyed camping, traveling, and keeping birds and fish, and he even tried his hand at photography and painting! His interests included gardening and watching UK basketball in later years. It is no secret that Otis's favorite food was peanut butter and crackers with a glass of milk. Otis had a quiet disposition but was a keen conversationalist. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings: twin brother, Owen Hurley; younger brother, Robbie Hurley; sisters Joyce Mullins and Donna (Gene) Travillian, all of East Bernstadt; and sister Teresa (Mike) Sulfridge of Richmond, as well as his numerous brothers- and sisters- in-law. Otis loved music, especially classic Country and Western tunes. A patriotic man, he was fond of this refrain from Steve Goodman's City of New Orleans, as performed by Willie Nelson: Good morning, America, how are you?! Say don't you know me/ I'm your native son? I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans I’ll be gone 500 miles when the day is done. A funeral service honoring Otis Dean Hurley will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Stanley Baker and Anthony Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Murray Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour, also at the funeral home.
